In a significant political move, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, has submitted over one crore petition signatures to the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Abdul Nazeer. The petitions were collected as part of a two-month-long statewide campaign titled “people’s verdict,” initiated against the ruling TDP–Jana Sena–BJP coalition’s healthcare policies.
The long convoy of sealed boxes carrying the petitions was flagged off by Reddy, who described the signature drive as “historic and unprecedented.” He stated that it reflected simmering public anger over what he termed as the “quiet sell-off” of medical education and healthcare facilities in the state.
The petition drive comes at a time when the YSRCP is actively advocating for the development of Amaravati, the planned capital city of Andhra Pradesh, which has been marred by political turmoil and delays. The submission of these petitions could potentially influence the state’s healthcare policies, adding another layer to the ongoing political discourse in the region.
