In Hyderabad, a fresh controversy has surfaced over allegations that several prominent educational institutions are conducting admission, scholarship and talent tests in violation of existing regulations. According to complaints raised by parents, these examinations are being organised on a large scale, with tens of thousands of students from Classes 5 to 12 reportedly participating.

The institutions are accused of turning these tests into a profit-driven exercise by collecting substantial fees, ranging from a few hundred rupees to over ₹1,600 per student. Parents allege that the tests are promoted aggressively by offering incentives such as fee concessions or preferential admission to students who score well, effectively commercialising practices that are not permitted under the law.

Education stakeholders have expressed concern that such activities compromise fairness in the system and place undue pressure on students and parents. There are also apprehensions that these tests create an uneven playing field, favouring those who can afford repeated exam fees.

Several parents have voiced their disappointment, stating that they were unaware these examinations were allegedly against the rules and that they participated believing the tests were legitimate and beneficial for their children’s future.

While the exact number of institutions involved and the full extent of the practice are yet to be ascertained, calls are growing for authorities to intervene. Education officials are being urged to conduct a thorough inquiry and take strict action to protect students’ interests and uphold the integrity of the education system in the city.
