Hyderabad – In a significant development for the state’s law enforcement and efforts to maintain peace, Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B Shivadhar Reddy announced that 509 Maoists have surrendered in Telangana this year, with 483 of them hailing from neighboring Chhattisgarh.
Among the surrenderees are 24 local Maoist rebels, signifying a substantial reduction in their numbers within the state. The DGP expressed optimism that ongoing efforts to negotiate with the remaining 53 active Maoists in Telangana may result in further decreases in their ranks.
This surge in surrenders comes as Telangana police continue to demonstrate effective control over crime, contributing to a reduction in overall cases from 2.34 lakh in 2024 to 2.28 lakh in the current year. However, NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases have seen an increase due to the police’s focused crackdown on these illicit substances.
This move towards peace is likely to have a positive impact on the overall security situation within Telangana and its neighboring regions, as the state continues its efforts to maintain law and order in the coming year.
