Hyderabad, January 9th – The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has determined that the Government of Telangana is vicariously liable for a case of medical negligence resulting in the death of a woman following a tubectomy surgery at a government health facility in Wanaparthy district.

The case in question, identified as HRC No., pertains to M Lalitha, who passed away after experiencing complications from the procedure performed at a Government Community Health Centre. The TGHRC found that medical negligence during the surgery led to ileal perforation, septic peritonitis, and cardio-pulmonary arrest, ultimately causing the woman’s demise.

The Telangana Human Rights Commission has emphasized the need for accountability and improvement in the healthcare sector, especially within government facilities, to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. The commission has requested a thorough investigation into this case and recommended appropriate action against those found responsible for the woman’s death.

This decision comes as part of ongoing efforts by the TGHRC to uphold human rights and ensure quality healthcare services for all citizens of Telangana. Shameem Akther, the chairperson of the commission, has expressed her concern over the incident and stressed the importance of addressing medical negligence in government health facilities.

The Government of Telangana and the relevant authorities are yet to respond publicly regarding this matter. However, the TGHRC’s findings serve as a call to action for strengthening healthcare services and promoting transparency within the sector.
