Deccan Alert | Telangana Chief Minister Announces Plans for 'Medaram Jatara' on Par with Kumbh Mela

In a significant move aimed at boosting tourism and preserving local culture, the Telangana government has announced plans to hold the Medaram Jatara, a major biennial tribal festival, along the lines of the renowned Kumbh Mela. The event will take place from January 28 to 31 in Mulugu district and is expected to attract large crowds.

At a cultural function in Mulugu, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy stated that this was the first time a cabinet meeting had been held outside Hyderabad in Medaram. He highlighted that Medaram Jatara symbolizes courage transformed into divinity and paid tribute to Sammakka and Saralamma, tribal folk goddesses who led a revolt against the Kakatiya dynasty.

Revanth Reddy recalled his ‘padayatra’ from Medaram on February 6, 2023, emphasizing his resolve to overthrow the BRS government during that time. He expressed gratitude for the blessings of the goddesses that led to the Congress party coming into power in the state.

The CM expressed his delight at the development works and stone structures completed within a hundred days ahead of the tribal festival. He stated, “I consider it my good fortune to develop Medaram.”
