In a significant political development in Andhra Pradesh, former Rajya Sabha member and one-time close confidant of YSR Congress President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, V Vijay Sai Reddy, is planning to embark on a padayatra across the state.
According to sources, Sai Reddy, who was previously perceived as the second-in-command in the YSRCP before his departure from the party in January last year, is planning to initiate his yatra much ahead of Jagan. The tentative start date for his padayatra is June.
Sai Reddy has publicly accused a “coterie” surrounding Jagan as the main reason for his exit from the YSRCP. His primary target appears to be YSRCP state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, whom he alleges was responsible for the party’s losses in the 2024 elections.
In a series of public statements, Sai Reddy has detailed his endurance of humiliation for over three years and his increasing feelings of being sidelined. He accused the inner circle of deliberately portraying him as a “backstabber” in Jagan’s eyes.
The focus of Sai Reddy’s padayatra is likely to be combating corruption allegations, rebuilding his political credibility, and displaying grassroots support. There is speculation that he may eventually align with the BJP or launch an independent political platform, depending on the response during the padayatra.
His reported connections with senior BJP leaders in Delhi have added fuel to these discussions. His statement that “Jagan has no future unless he gets rid of the coterie” has become a topic of discussion within YSRCP circles. There are suggestions that Sai Reddy may focus on strengthening the BJP, enabling it to chart an independent course with the support of Jana Sena.
