Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed the Water Resources Department (WRD) to provide frequent updates about the Polavaram project and maintain high standards in its construction. Addressing a review meeting on prioritized irrigation projects last Friday, Naidu emphasized that there should be no lapses or discrepancies in the maintenance of technical aspects, documentation, or quality control.
Naidu urged constant communication with international experts who have visited the Polavaram project to ensure it aligns with their advice. He also requested the Central officials be informed about the time-bound schedule being followed by the State for the construction of the multi-purpose project and announced monthly review meetings starting from now.
The CM ordered the immediate completion of the Polavaram Left Main Canal works up to Meghadrigedda in Visakhapatnam district. He also insisted that the Diaphragm Wall (D-Wall) construction be completed by the end of March and that adequate focus should be given to the rehabilitation of project-affected families, as water will be stored up to 41.15 meters.
Naidu stated that the action plan drawn up for completing Polavaram and various projects in Rayalaseema and north coastal districts must be followed diligently. He also ordered expedited progress on the Veligonda and North Andhra projects, asking officials to coordinate with the Finance Department to ensure they are not affected by funding shortages.
Lastly, Naidu instructed securing speedy clearances for the Polavaram – Nallamala Sagar Link project to commence works at the earliest. He also suggested that repairs and maintenance of lift irrigation projects should be carried out using the Hybrid Annuity Mode method.
Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu, Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam, and other officials were present during the meeting.
